Howdy Hi ya’ll,

Patience is the first lesson…He was going somewhere with that, but I must have missed the meaning.  Or I’m just too impatient and failed on the first lesson.  Either way its a new day and I don’t feel as much of a failure today.

So some somewhat sad news (somewhat because it’s 50 years old and that dulls the edge of grief a wee bit).  It was on this day in 1959 that Buddy Holly, along with Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper (a.k.a. J.P. Richardson) died in a plane crash.

I for one was a guy that always though Buddy Holly was way out of my range in musical listening.  He seemed like the guy from so far back that he wasn’t even really playing rock music.  But the great thing about music is that each great writer or player has an immesurable influence on those that come after them.  And who else better to have influenced than The Beatles.   It is for surely a great musican such as Buddy Holly that was able to shape rock into a powerful statement in music.

p.s.  There are only four words in the English language which end in “-dous”: tremendous, horrendous, stupendous, and hazardous.
